NORTH V. SOUTH RACIAL DISTRIBUTION IN US CITIES
UNITED STATES
PROJECT BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES
This project was completed as part of the coursework for CP 6570 – Socioeconomic GIS. I investigated the anecdotal stereotype that northern regions of cities tend to be more wealthy and white, whereas the southern halves are poorer and more black. Using ACS data, I constructed racial distribution maps of the 40 most populous cities in the United States. I then used Global Moran’s I and Spatial Regression to determine if the distribution patterns were significant.
