TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT AT
HARTSFIELD-JACKSON ATLANTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
ATLANTA, GA – COLLEGE PARK, GA – EAST POINT, GA
PROJECT BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES
This project was completed as part of the assignments for CP 6552, Smart Urban Systems. My group conducted various spatial analyses on the land surrounding Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and then presented the findings to members of Aerotropolis, an airport planning firm, as well as representatives from the airport itself. All analysis was done using open source data and R.
My individual focus was on public transit connectivity and land-use around the airport. I visualized the zoning classifications of each tract in College Park and East Point, and included which lots were vacant, as well as their last appraised value. I was interested in determining which tracts of land would be suitable for redevelopment in creating affordable housing units for airport workers. By identifying available tracts, I then made these recommendations for rezoning and redevelopment to stakeholders.
